How To Make One Video Work For All Platforms

As a small business owner or social media manager who is managing multiple clients or works for a company, managing social media can feel like a never-ending task, especially when you're the one wearing all the hats. I've found a practical approach that revolves around creating one comprehensive video to cater to eight major social media platforms. I am using the approach myself, which allows me to create tons of content within a reasonable amount of time. It is super easy and quick. Let me break it down for you.

Step 1: Creating a long-form video for Youtube

For YouTube, my videos typically range from 10 to 40 minutes, depending on the content. I start by creating a detailed document with talking points to create an outline for my video. Once I created my talking points, I add the "meat" to each section.

Once I am done with creating the script, I start filming my videos. Sometimes I use a teleprompter, which is a straightforward setup with my laptop and a teleprompter app. I like to read off a script, especially for those sections where I want to get every detail right and don't want to risk getting lost. When reading of a script, it's a bit tricky to sound natural. My tip: Only talk about things you are really interested in and most importantly, have knowledge about. All the content I post about, I either use the same strategies in my day-to-day life to see results, or I talk about my experiences. My second tip: Before you film the content, do what I call " a dry run". Read the script out loud to get more comfortable.

Transcript for your blog and LinkedIn

Once you're done editing your video you can simply transcribe the video. Transciribibg your video will leave you with a blob of written words. You could edit the article and add headlines, subheadlines and additional content or you could use AI. Artificial intelligence is the perfect assistant to save time.

I like to throw my written words into chat gpt and provide necessary prompts so the generative AI can craft a post for my blog and LinkedIn.

After recording and editing (I keep my editing to a minimum), the next step is transcribing the video for your blog and LinkedIn. I urge you to post on LinkedIn since this social media channel is a great tool to build credibility and connect with potential clients.

If you are someone who takes care of the entire process, creating, editing, posting, and streamlining the process is extremely important to work efficiently.

You can manually edit the transcript by adding headlines and more information, or alternatively, you can leverage the power of artificial intelligence.

I personally prefer using ChatGPT for this. By providing specific prompts, the AI crafts a well-rounded post for my blog and LinkedIn, maintaining a consistent and engaging tone. This approach helps small business owners efficiently manage their social media presence without compromising on quality.

Creating short-form video content

There are two approaches you can use depending on your comfort level. I post these short-form pieces to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, and LinkedIn. So that's five major social platforms. Out of each long-form video, you roughly get 3-5 short-form videos.

Number 1:

During the editing process, I identify sections that I can use for short-form video content. The trick to "finding" short-form video content for Instagram or TitTok starts with the script.

When I'm editing the video, I'm not just polishing up the long-form video – I'm also looking for sections that can shine on their own in short-form content. The secret sauce to this process? It all starts with the script.

See, the script is like the blueprint. Crafting it with an eye for versatility is key. Each talking point isn't just a piece of the puzzle; it's a potential standalone snippet, perfect for platforms like Instagram or TikTok. So, when I'm putting together the script, I'm thinking about how each part can pack a punch on its own.

Number 2:

Once you are done with the article for LinkedIn or your blog, skim through it to identify potential short-form video and record them separately on your phone.

This isn't just a review; it's a strategic scan to pinpoint potential short-form video moments. These are the golden snippets that can captivate your audience on platforms like Instagram or TikTok. As you skim through, keep an eye out for those standout sentences or compelling ideas that can be distilled into bite-sized video content.

Tweets for Twitter

If you are using X, you can copy your long-form written blog post, and use AI to come up with 5-10 tweets. I still call it tweets or should I say "Xs"? Utilizing AI in this step will save you tins of time. Just be sure to use the correct prompts when using for instance ChatGPT to you'll the outcome you are looking form. Now you can easily schedule those tweets across the week.

Following my strategy and repurposing one long-form video will allow you to create over 15 posts of content for all major social media platforms which should easily carry you through a week or two of posting.
